ROBERT W. BAILEY M.D

Biography

Dr. Robert W. Bailey is a Board-Certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the America College of Surgeons. He is currently practicing general and laparoscopic surgery in the Miami area.

In 1999, Dr. Bailey was recruited to the University of Miami to establish the Center of Excellence for Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery. After rlis arrival at the University of Miami, Dr. Bailey supervised the design and construction of a world-class, 7000 sq ft training center in laparoscopic surgery. From 1999 until 2005, Dr. Bailey was Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Laparoendoscopic & Bariatric Surgery, and Medical Director of the Center for Laparoscopic Surgery.

Dr. Bailey received his Undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. His surgical training was at the New York University Medical Center. He also completed a Fellowship in the Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After completing his surgical training, he spent four years as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he and his colleague, Dr. Karl Zucker, were instrumental in pioneering the field of laparoscopic general surgery. In 1992, Drs. Zucker and Bailey published the first textbook on laparoscopic general surgery. In 1992, Dr. Bailey was offered and accepted the position of Chief, Division of General Surgery at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. In 1996, he was asked to create and become the Medical Director of the Center for Laparoscopic Surgery at the Hahnemann University School of Medicine/Medical College of Pennsylvania.
